Digital Lizard opened its doors in 2005 as the print production division of By Design Publishing in Hayden, Idaho. By Design published the most-circulated personalized real estate magazine in the industry. With extremely tight deadlines, the executive team sought ways decrease their time-to-market. They made the bold decision to jump into the digital print business.
The executive team brought in Digital Lizard's current President, William Wieners. They tasked him with building a print shop that could handle producing over 600,000 personalized magazine covers each month, with less than a week of production turnaround. Bill assembled a team of the best people in the business.
The technology to process such a large number of files in such a short time did not exist. In addition to building a plant that could physically print and deliver the product, the team had to invent new technologies to process files. Today, companies across the print industry use processes and technology pioneered by Digital Lizard.
Digital Lizard acquired HP Indigo presses and successfully ran the magazine for several years. As the real estate, market began to experience bad times, DL ventured into the world of commercial digital printing. During the roughest years the print industry has ever seen, 2008 - 2010, Digital Lizard continued to grow and never saw a year with reduced revenue. The team worked hard to build a business they were extremely proud to be part of.
Digital Lizard needed an offset partner willing to work on the bleeding edge and do things Web Offset companies were only dreaming about at the time. After an exhaustive search, CREEL Printing was chosen as the right partner. CREEL was equipped to jump into new technologies and eager to find new markets.
Becoming one of the major players in the Print-On-Demand market, Digital Lizard grew from just a few orders each day to over 500 orders per day. In the summer of 2011, Bill approached Allan Creel with the offbeat idea that maybe he wanted to get deeper into the digital print arena. Within 45 days the deal was done, and Digital Lizard was part of the CREEL Family. Since the CREEL acquisition, DL has boomed with sales growing almost 300%. Digital Lizard opened a Las Vegas, Nevada office in June 2012 and acquired several small digital print providers in the Las Vegas Valley.
Now Digital Lizard's Las Vegas location has made the next big bold move into the original home of CREEL Printing at 2650 Westwood Drive. The six-month renovation of the 1961 building has brought new life to the old building. Digital Lizard now has fifteen HP Indigo Series 3 Presses between all locations, supplemented by six Xerox iGen's. Digital Lizard employs more than 60 people between both plants.
